Franklin Sena, an infantryman and Tactical Explosives Detection Dog handler with Company C, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, Combined Task Force 4-2 (4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division), and his dog, Livee, work together during their first mission as a team during a dismounted patrol Feb. 7, in Shubazai, Afghanistan. Sena received nine weeks of training to be a TEDD handler and is currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Sal Somoza, Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Farah, pulls security outside the Farah provincial governor’s compound in Farah City, Feb. 5. The mission was part of a two-day visit by U.S. Ambassador Hugo Llorens, Assistant Chief of Mission in Kabul, Afghanistan, to meet with provincial level Afghan officials, engage with PRT’s civil-military leadership team and to meet with soldiers and sailors assigned to the team. PRT Farah’s mission is to train, advise, and assist Afghan government leaders at the municipal, district, and provincial levels in Farah province, Afghanistan. Their civil military team is comprised of members of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
